I’ve had experiences where I wanted to use channels closer to the middle segment of 5GHz, but later realized that some of my family’s gadgets could no longer see the SSID switching back to a channel at the extremes of the spectrum resolved the problem. However, sometimes the router chooses a channel that isn’t recognized by some wireless adapters. This should, theoretically, help to reduce frequency overlap and interference. You see, the ‘auto’ function gives the router the permission to “intelligently” choose which channel to broadcast on based on other WiFi signals being detected in your neighbourhood. Letting your router automatically choose what channel it wants to use is likely to cause the problem you’re experiencing. ![]() This is why you should manually set your wireless channel. When you say “crashing”, do you just mean that previously-connected devices just don’t connect anymore? ![]()
